How It EvolvedĀ
Sarilla was created by Sara Stender Delaney, a lifelong entrepreneur and global activist. Operating between Vermont, Western North Carolina and Rwanda, she has been alcohol-free since the age of 28. Sara finds there are very few better-for-you alcohol-free beverages that taste great, are free from artificial ingredients and sugar, and feel just as celebratory as alcohol. She made it her mission to solve this problem so everyone could feel special and included, all while working directly with farmers so they could also benefit from our success as we grow.
For a deeper look at our company roots and Sara's commitment to this work, check out her 15-minute Ted Talk and our list of recent podcasts and press.
Before Sarilla, Sara founded the nonprofit organization Africa Healing Exchange (AHE), established to assist Rwandan Genocide survivors with trauma healing. She spent a year living in Rwanda and continues to go back on a regular basis. We have an annual crop to cup trip where guests can discover our fully transparent supply chain, and participate in a cultural exchange.
Sara is driven by a larger mission to serve humanity and to identify empowering solutions to global problems. Since first learning about the 1994 Rwandan Genocide, she has been inspired by the courageĀ of Rwanda and sought out to live there, knowing it would be fertile soil for identifying her calling. She spent almost a year working with people who had lost loved ones during the genocide, managing a restaurant thatĀ served as a hands-on training facility for survivors.Ā
